A 19th-century building that was once a department store and more recently a radio station has been transformed into one of Lisbon’s grandest hotels. It has a total of 77 rooms and 10 suites spread over four floors, inspired by the journeys of Roberto Ivens and Hermenegildo Capelo, two Portuguese explorers who went on expeditions into the jungles of Africa to study the plants, rocks and any undiscovered animal species. As a result, the interiors have a rather exotic décor, using animal sculptures, images of jungles and period photographs. There’s a gym, a bar and a restaurant which is one of the most attractive in town.
